10 ways to help your audit committee get the most of internal audit.

Internal Audit

Every charity has a responsibility to take steps to protect its assets from loss and to maintain adequate information to meet legal requirements and support decision making by trustees and managers.

For smaller charities, a combination of management supervision and spot checks by senior staff and trustees may meet this requirement, but for large charities some form of internal audit is likely to be necessary.

A few, very large charities are able to justify their own internal audit staff, but many more choose to engage a professional firm to provide an audit service for them.

Horwath Clark Whitehill provides internal audit services to charities as well as organisations in many other sectors. This service is built upon four key elements:

  • people with the right technical and personal experience and relevant experience
  • processes that are integrated in a risk-based methodology which is regularly benchmarked against better practice and professional standards
  • knowledge bases for specific sectors, enabling our staff to supplement their own experience with the combined expertise of the firm’s specialists
  • technology in the form of our market leading internal audit management system, developed in the UK but sold worldwide to major internal audit departments.

We would be pleased to tell you more about how our services could benefit your charity.

We can also advise internal auditors on implementation of new methodologies, provide audit tools, or support them with specialist services such as IT audit.
