Employer services

Our dedicated team of specialists advise schools on all aspects of employment tax compliance and remuneration planning. This includes detailed risk assessments of our clients PAYE, benefit and expenses procedures, a review of employee benefits including teachers living accommodation, advice in respect of peripatetic teachers and relevant salary sacrifice arrangements.

We will provide you with assurance that your procedures are foolproof and that you are not at risk of incurring significant liabilities and penalties for failing to comply with difficult legislation, whilst ensuring that you maximise opportunities to provide a competitive remuneration package.

Our services for schools include:

  • PAYE Risk Assessment - a comprehensive walk through the operation of your PAYE, expenses and benefits procedures highlighting potential areas of concern with advice on how to correct matters for the future
  • Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) - advise on the new CIS scheme and whether or not it applies to you, applications to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and completion of returns
  • P11D Dispensations and expense policy - review or draft new expense policies and advise and negotiate with HMRC regarding dispensation applications and renewals
  • PAYE Settlement Agreements - apply for an agreement, assist you in completion of the figures and/or check your computation
  • payroll services - to include all returns and statutory payments
  • telephone helpline - provided for either employers or employees to answer routine queries.

Specialised areas that we can assist and advise on are:

  • HMRC reviews - become involved in a review at any time from taking the lead on the first visit to ‘discussing’ the level of penalty with HMRC
  • living accommodation - advise on whether the accommodation and associated benefits are tax exempt including advising on Joint Equity Schemes
  • status of workers - including peripatetic teachers and sports coaches including categorisation regulations and the 3/3 rule. Negotiate with HMRC where for example ‘Demibourne’ applies
  • termination of employment - review all documentation to advise on the ‘appropriate’ treatment for tax purposes
  • salary sacrifice - implement schemes including separate salary scales, review existing paperwork to ensure it will satisfy HMRC
  • staff training - run in-house and external presentations for your staff on PAYE, P11Ds and CIS etc.
