Changes to Corporate tax enquiry window

The corporation tax enquiry window for stand-alone companies and small groups will be changing for returns for accounting periods ending on or after 1 April 2008 as a result of a recommendation made by Lord Carter.

Under changes made in the 2007 Finance Act, the corporation tax enquiry window is changing for accounting periods ending after 31 March 2008 and is designed to give earlier certainty to companies that file early. For returns filed from 1 April 2008 onward, the enquiry window for returns delivered before the filing date will close 12 months from the day on which HMRC receives the return. Companies affected should consider whether there is merit in accelerating their corporation tax submission date.
